Messages from The Troops - Page 4
Sept.15, 2010
Dear Military Moms, Macomb Chapter,
You may remember that I wrote to thank you for boxes that I received
while stationed at
Lajes Field, Azores, where I am a teacher for the
children of military members. As I mentioned, I received a
leave of
absence to teach college courses for the
University of Maryland at
Kandahar Air Field,
Afghanistan, and that is where I am now.
I received yet another wonderful box and shared it with the students
in my writing class. A student volunteered to write to you on behalf
of the entire class. Here is the letter:
Dear Military Moms,
We very much appreciate the
care package you sent. It means alot to us
to see people are thinking about us. It is rough out here from time to
time, and support from home helps ease our troubles. These are very
useful goods that will help us take care of the important things in
our day. The Beanie Babies help pass the time and break the
seriousness in our day. We enjoyed passing them around, nameing them,
and debating over whose is the best. Thank you very much for all that
you do and showing that you care.
Sincerely,
Ms. Grant's Writing Class

Just wanted to let you know that i received a
care package today from you. I'm guessing it has things inside
that were put together
with the assistance from a middle school. I have
sent an e-mail to 2 e-mail addresses I saw in the package. It got here
pretty fast.
The pillow that came with it is real nice and appreciate
it and everything else that everyone assisted and contributed to/with.
Please thank everyone, or at least who you can, and let them know that i
hope they have a great Thanksgiving and
Christmas.
Thanks a lot,
SGT HOBBS

Michigan Military Moms ~ Macomb,
I am originally from
Pontiac, MI and was raised in TX. I have been in the
Navy for 16 years and am serving my first tour in
Iraq. I just
wanted to say
Thank You for the service you provide to us. Your care packages are
always
welcomed and greatly appreciated. I can assure you, nothing goes to
waste.
Thanks to you all, we can always look forward to receiving a little bit
of
home in every box. Whether we are in the desert, on a ship in the middle
of
the ocean, or at a safe duty station, the volunteer service you provide
to
us never gets old and it's never taken for granted. You are all true
patriots. Know that what you are doing is not unnoticed. Please pass my
sincere appreciation to all of those involved with your project. Have a
Safe
and Happy Holiday Season.
Respectfully,
ENC(SW) Dion Rodriguez
P.S. In case anyone is curious, your packages took about seven days to
arrive
in Iraq. Not bad at all!!! :)

Judy and all
Michigan Military Moms,
Thank you very much to you and all of the members of
Michigan Military Moms. I received 7 of the 10 boxes
you sent me to distribute to my ship mates here on
the USS O’Kane. They came the day after our
Christmas party on board. Names were drawn the night
before out of a box for gifts to be given from the
ship. Using the rest of the names in the box, we
pulled 7 more names for the gifts you sent. We
choose to have some fun with it and spoke to our XO,
CMDR Ray, (second in command) and he decided to play
along with what we planned. He called out the 7
names over the loud speaker of the ship and directed
them to report to his cabin in a stern voice.
Normally if you are called to his stateroom, your
butt is about to be chewed out over something you
did or didn’t do. As my shipmates began to make
their appearance, they were called into the room one
by one and asked fiercely, “Is there something you
would like to tell me?” by our XO. Our
commanding officer, CMDR Trinque, was also
present in the room. The fear was pouring out of
each inidual as they stepped in and relief was
given as we explained that their presence was
required to receive a gift from the Michigan
Military Moms. Smiles covered each of their faces as
I handed a box to each one of them. The XO then
announced over the loud speaker why these
iniduals were called out and what had happened
recognizing your group for the support. Many of my
shipmates have come to me to say thank you just for
the gesture and what a nice thing all of you did for
us.
After spending three years in Michigan recruiting, I
watched the times become difficult for many people
and families while they lost their jobs and homes.
Over time, being deployed half way around the world
during a war away from our loved ones can be
difficult on us. During these trying times for all
of us, your group had the time to think of us and
support what we do. I promise that it does not go
here unappreciated. All the support and love that
you give us, drives us everyday to complete our
mission.
On behave of all of us on the USS O’Kane, Thank you
and
Merry Christmas to you and each member of
Michigan Military Moms. Our command does have a
facebook page if you would like to stay current with
our ship. We also took pictures handing out the
gifts you sent and should be posted soon.
Sincerely,
CTM2 Jason E. Kurpiewski

To whom it may
concern,
I want to pass along my
thanks to your organization
for the pillow, candy,
beanie, hand-warmers, gun
oil, assorted candies, and
mostly the hand-written
notes of expressed
appreciation from American
citizens. I’m sure you get
this a lot, but I was
personally touched by the
kindness of your communities
in bringing this sailor a
small bit of holiday cheer,
especially when I’m so far
from home. It’s a
comforting thought, as well
as a sobering thought to be
able to feel the support of
the very people I serve to
protect and I cannot say,
nor do enough, to express my
sincerity of thanks and
appreciation. Your
organization is a credit to
you, your communities, your
state, and to our great
Nation.
My family and my self are
honored by your commitment
to our national service men
and women, and my hat is off
to you.
With great appreciation,
gratitude, and thanks,
SH3(SW) Brake, William P.

Hi Michigan Military Moms! I just received a
care package from the
Macomb Chapter and I just wanted to say thank you so much for thinking
of us. I shared the items amongst my office co-workers here in the
Support Operations shop in 426 BSB of the
101st Airborne division. We
are on our 9th month here in
Afghanistan and can see the
light at the
end of the tunnel;)
Thank you so very much for your thoughts and prayers, and also your
support. We appreciate you all more than you will ever know!

Hello. Sorry about the delay in the picture. I haven't forgotten but just
haven't had much time between work and sleeping. I wanted to do it on my
day off today. I'm also going to send you a picture of me to you. I
received the packages yesterday. Thanks a lot. I'll probably be home by
the time you all send any more packages. I really appreciate all the
packages i've received since i've been here though. Hope everyone is
doing well and everyhting is going well.

I wanted to thank you and truly express our gratitude for the packages
you sent. Being away from home is really tough as you can imagine.
Having people and organizations like yours who take the time to do what
you do is really remarkable. It never fails to put a smile on my
soldier's faces when they receive "goodies" from back home. We are
currently in the process of redeploying back to
Fort Drum, New York. I
wanted to let you know that the packages you have sent have made our
deployment that much better. Again, thank you so much.
