LAST UPDATE:  03/19/2012

Michigan Military Moms,

First, let me start off by giving our sincere thanks for all of your support that we have been receiving during our times here during Operation Enduring Freedom. I wish all Soldiers would write & express their thanks, but some are better with words than others. I have been asked by all of my Soldiers to write you all and express this.

Your packages, warm thoughts and consideration for our well being have been warmly received by all of us here in Afghanistan. It's quite a thing to think that these items came from the States; from stores or your own household, all the way across the ocean to the very desert or mountains of Afghanistan that we are at. Opening mail for Soldiers is always like Christmas. It is one thing to receive a package from family/friends/loved ones, knowing what you asked for or what they sent. It's another thing to receive a package from all of our supporters in the States. Like I said, Christmas in June for us all the time!

Every single item you send is put to use. Whether it be food, books, hygiene items or random toys; believe me, we use them. The Soldiers might not admit it, but when they walk by the letters we hang up from all of you, it makes them feel at home, wanted, proud and determined to continue on in even the most dire circumstances. This is especially true for Soldiers who do not always receive mail. I have contacted my family with those names a while back and I want to give a personal thanks that the message was received and taken care of. These Soldiers constantly receive mail now and I'm sure it is a great feeling for them.

Organizations like yourself play a vital role in our struggle in the foreign lands. Soldiers will not fight without motivation. Soldiers need to be reminded why they are fighting, why they are bleeding, sweating and working so hard. Your support gives them the additional support they need. Although our tour will be ending here shortly, there are many members of the Armed Forces coming into our area to continue where we left off. I would request if you continue to send items please send them to:

 1LT Caleb H - LAGMAN

This is the address of the officer who will be filling my void in Afghanistan. I will let him know that he could expect a few things and to distribute them accordingly, just as I did. He'll pick up right where I left off, with Soldiers hovering around me, watching me knife open boxes and pull out all sorts of goodies. Then the scramble really begins. I will inform him to identify Soldiers who are not receiving mail and to relay that information to you.

I wish I had something to send with this letter, honestly I do. Just know enclosed in this letter is our complete and sincere thanks and gratitude. We will all be home soon and those that pay the ultimate sacrifice will forever live on in our hearts and minds. You can count on us!

Very Respectfully,

1LT Shaun W

Dear Michigan Military Moms,

Thank you for the two boxes that you sent to my company. Everything will be used. The biggest hit were the Twinkies and the brownies, those were gone in about 2 seconds. things over here are going very well. It has been very quiet for the past month and it has given us all a well deserved break. morale is high and everyone is excited we just reached the halfway point in our deployment. I have to go get back to work but thank you again for your support

Hello Ladies of the Michigan Military Moms:

We received your packages today and are extremely grateful for your contribution. There were so many boxes we hardly had room to take two trips  from  the mail room!! The photos of the group were a nice addition as it allows the Paratroopers to see the members of the group volunteering back home. Thanks again for all you do.

Best Regards,

Ron

Kathy, Mary & all of the Military Moms,

Thank You so much for the Christmas package you sent to us, particularly the knit caps and pillows. They don't carry much in the line of "Good" linens here, so going to sleep on that bad boy was niiiiiice!! Our tour is just about up here. We're suppose to be outta here around the first part of January, but I will still keep in touch to see how you're doing and thank you again for all your kindness. Do you have an address to the school that sent us the cards and pics? I'd like to send them a thank you note as well. We put all their cards up in our hallway as a tribute to them.

I'll let you go for now, but I can never thank you enough for all your kindness and support you've shown to us throughout our stay here in Iraq. I just hop the other guys are at least half as appreciative as I am. Thanks again for everything and have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Thank You so much for the package! My soldiers and I greatly appreciated your gifts during the Holidays. It definitely made things better. Being away from family has definitely proved to be tough, but with the love and support from people like yourself it has made times over here much better. I can say progress is being made in our efforts here. I believe in what we have done and are continuing to do. Please continue to keep us in your prayers as you are in ours. Thank you again & God Bless!!

My name is Kirk H, I am the supervisor of the MWR facility here at Q West. I want you to rest assured that the items that you are sending are an incredible hit among the soldiers. These gifts from home are greatly appreciated and you make their lives better by sending them - again, I say thank you.

It's great that you included email in your correspondence because when we are able to continue the communication with those that keep the troops in their hearts it makes it easier to plan and anticipate what may be coming down the line. The postal system can be problematic for us; things come our way fairly quickly but going out is very slow. I had a Christmas card that I sent take 2 months to arrive at its destination.

Anyway, we have a great bunch of men and women here and I feel honored that I have gotten the opportunity to serve them - and I am extra grateful to have people like you that are willing to commit time and effort into helping my staff and myself accomplish that.

Kirk H. - MWR Supervisor

Dear Michigan Military Moms,

My name is Charles L, the am the company 1st Sgt for Headquarters Company 81st Heavy Brigade Combat Team that is (usually) in Seattle, WA, I have had the privilege of being the recipient of many packages sent by your organization. I wanted to let you know that your support has been overwhelming and much appreciated.

My wife and I are both military, currently we are in the Washington National Guard, but both of us have roots in Michigan. I grew up in Prescott and my wife is from the Detroit area.

As many do, I have been putting out your boxes for the Soldiers of the company, as well as your cards and letters. I just wanted to say Thank You from all of us here in Ramadi, Iraq.

Thanks again to everyone,

Dear Michigan Military Moms,

Thank you for your boxes. The Soldiers were like little kids! I took 1/2 to inbound and 1/2 to outbound (you know I work at a Air Field Terminal). We sometimes move over 300 Soldiers a night. Your boxes were great!! I opened all the candy and dumped it in 2 big boxes. I came back 2 hours later and it was gone! After March there will be no chocolate here, to hot for candy. Sorry its 5am and I have to go to bed, long night!

Take Care & God Bless,

Trudy

PS - If you can maybe send some coffee and sugar, I got 5 cans at the PX but they are short now.
